Cement Look Vase Makeover

Spread the love

Things have been crazy busy for me the last month or so with the kids’ school holidays, umpteen different projects on the go, and an enormous amount of work I have behind the scenes on my blog re-design (very exciting!).

So I thought I’d take time to quickly share a little vase upcycle / makeover that I managed to get done during the holidays using some cement-look structure paint.

Last year we bought a second-hand static caravan on a lovely holiday park in Friesland.

The caravan was in quite a good state and we were lucky enough to get the complete contents thrown in with the sale.

The decor, however, is a little bit dated so I am on a mission to revamp it without spending too much money so I am trying to use the things I already have.

I inherited with the caravan a pair of lovely big vases.  I really liked the shape and the size of the vases but with regard to the design it desperately needed bringing up to date!

Old Fashioned Vases Before Makeover

I already had some cement look structure paint which I bought a while ago from ‘Action’(a discount store here in the Netherlands).

It was only around €2 for the bottle so I was curious to see how it would look.

First I took the vases and gave them a good wash!

I debated whether or not I should try to fill the pattern on the vase but decided in the end just to paint straight over it.

The paint went on super easy but it did take me a total of 4 layers to get complete coverage.  I allowed about half an hour of drying time between the layers.

To paint the 2 vases (inside and out) I used about 3/4 of the bottle of paint.

I was pretty happy with the end results.

The flowers also came with the caravan and (upon a closer inspection) area a little tatty around the edges so I still need to look for something to replace them with.

Now I just need to see to the upholstery!

I will be sharing lots more DIY, craft, and home lifestyle features.

That’s a neat way to update vases! Would probably look great on old flower pots too! Pinned to try this later πŸ™‚

That looks great, I wonder if they sell something similar in South Africa. I need to check. I’m glad you didn’t fill in the pattern, it adds a lovely touch to the finished vases.

Thanks again Michelle πŸ™‚ I think if you can’t get the same type of paint it would probably work with either acrylic paint or chalk paint with some sand thrown in to give it the texture.
