See how this tiny front entrance hall was transformed from an outdated dark dingy brown space into a light and airy hallway.
Our little Dutch house has a pretty strange design. From the outside, it has what looks like two front doors which get very confusing for visitors.
One door opens into the ‘bijkeuken’ (utility room) and the other into our small entrance hall.
I’m beginning to repeat myself a lot here – but as with the rest of the house, the stairs and hallway were – you guessed it! Brown!
The brown made our small entrance hall look dark and dingy so we set to work and did a quick makeover.
Small Entrance Hall – Before Makeover
Because the budget was pretty tight we decided to keep the floor tiles.
These would not have been my personal choice but as they were neutral and pretty inoffensive so they were allowed to stay.
Small Entrance Hall – After Makeover
We had the ceiling re-plastered and painted everything white to give us a fresh start.
Side Table & Decor
The silver candlesticks were a bargain – also found in a charity shop – €3 for the pair!
In the white lantern, I have displayed a little raku pottery boat that I made during a taster ceramics course
The succulent plants are very ‘on trend’ now with many cool and stylish ideas appearing in all the home styling tv programmes, magazines, and websites. They are unbelievably easy to care for and need very little attention.
The drawers in the table are used to house my daughters’ gloves hats and scarves, keeping them tucked out of the way but in easy reach for the girls.
We have now been in this house for 4 years and everything is already starting to look a bit dog-eared and tired now so I guess we will be needing to redo this again pretty soon.
