16 Interior Design Experts’ Favourite Home Style Trends

Nicole Corr From Green Isle Landscaping
The home decor trends and styles we are being drawn to at the moment include white, a lot of white, and pink soft furnishings.
Combined with our antique furniture and wooden floors it is a feminine change to Navy and Browns. Slightly sexy and very clean & fresh feel.

Susanne Stewart From Life On Pearl Street
Right now I am really loving the look of painted furniture.
Whether it is taking an old piece and giving it new life or a new piece and giving it character, I think a piece of painted furniture can be a great addition to a space.
It is such a great way to bring color into a room. Teal, red, yellow, white…the possibilities are endless!
I really love the look of vintage industrial and industrial farmhouse. The decor has so much character and when done right can have the crisp clean look that I love so much.
As much as I try to change over to one of these design styles, I always seem to be drawn back to darker woods and colors…I love color! So, my style stays eclectic.

Jessica Devlin From Jessica Devlin Design
I’m drawn to the clean lines of California Modern.
It’s a mix between mid-century modern and beachy vibes. It’s bright and airy but still has a cool vibe to it.
I love the white walls and muted fabrics. Everything feels so relaxing and underplayed.

Sarah Foote From The Project Pile
Right now, I would say that I’m definitely being drawn more toward natural décor.
Pretty much for my entire life, up until just recently, I was all about hot pink, glitter, and lots of animal print, but lately, my taste has definitely changed!
I love collecting antiques and “treasures” so I’ve really been trying to base my home décor around showcasing the different pieces that I’ve been collecting over the years.
Having grown up in an old farmhouse on a real farm, I would also have to say that I am still drawn to farmhouse style, and I think I probably will be forever!

Kimm Boes From Reinvented
My first love is definitely a modern farmhouse style; even though we live in a very cookie-cutter planned suburban community.
I love neutral colors, punctuated with contrast, rustic wood, and a touch of green in the form of plants. If there’s a little aqua here and there, I won’t complain.
Lately, I find myself also drawn to mid-century modern spaces, loving the colors and shapes (although I would probably tire of them quickly in my own home! ); and a rustic bohemian style.
I think if I was a single girl, I’d lean more bohemian and feminine. To feed my love of design I read A LOT of design magazines and I think I’m most impressed by the blending of styles to create spaces that suit different tastes; these are the most unique and personal.

Christy Harper From The Harper House
The home decor style that I love at the moment is farmhouse, but with a coastal twist.
So I guess you could call it “Coastal Farmhouse Chic.” 🙂 I’ve always loved all things beachy.
We are currently remodeling but I plan to add a neutral taupe sectional, with soft blues and sea glass green accessories.
Then I’ll add a bit of the farmhouse vibe with some vintage baskets, chippy-painted cupboards, and lots of white shiplap for texture.

Pam List From Momma Can
I am loving the trendy bold colors this summer. They remind me of Fiesta Ware! Bold reds, bright blues, oranges, and lemons!
These colors are a blast and one of the reasons I recently purchased a radically colorful new quilt for our master bedroom.
I like to call it our little island getaway. Bold colors allow you to show true freedom in design. Go Bold or Go Home!

Emy Flint From Semi Gloss Design
I love that wallpaper is back. I want it everywhere. Patterned walls make such a huge impact and lessen the need for tons of art.
Because wallpaper is expensive, I love a wallpaper accent wall. I know accent walls are controversial, but they can really make an impact without overpowering a space.

Yami Platero From The Latina Next Door
I love Joanna Gaines’s farmhouse style, but with a more modern twist.
I like clean lines, chrome finishes, and lots of white in my decor. But at the same time, I love shiplap and have already incorporated it into my home.
Spanish tile is really popular right now as well. Pairing gorgeous intricate tile patterns with simple white cabinets in a kitchen can create drama yet still look very classic.
I like that you can merge those two styles and still create an inspiring yet cohesive space.

Jennifer Gainer From Jenron Designs
Home trends are always evolving over time.
Of course, I am being drawn to the current trends of rustic farmhouse, and industrial modern right now, but I always seem to take comfort in a consistent theme of the beach.
I am not talking about seashells and starfish everywhere, my design is more subtle a chic nod to a beach feel with raw driftwood, and aqua tones.

Denise Bryant From My Thrifty House
I have always liked the look of mismatched furniture with a vintage vibe but lately, the decor trend I am being drawn to more and more is the industrial farmhouse look.
Galvanized, rusty metal and chippy, reclaimed wood pieces throughout work well with the vintage pieces throughout my home.

Tina Bousu From Eclectic Twist
I tend not to pay too much attention to trends. I like to stick with what I love and what works for me and combine that with the classics.
For example, we redid our kitchen a couple of years ago and although I love a white kitchen for its light airy feel, our home is a Colorado mountain style and it would have looked ridiculous.
So I decided on a classic shaker cabinet door (same I would have chosen if in white) but went with a grey stained wood.
A good balance of classic (shaker style) meets contemporary (grey stain) meets mountain home (maintaining the wood grains and feel with the stain).
It’s all about balance for me. When in doubt think classic but throw a twist in there for fun!
I am completely in love with blush pink at the moment, not sure if that’s considered a trend but I have been all about the pink for the last couple of years. Of course, I’m all about every color!

Susie Kuc From Tiny House Giant Life
Give me everything mid-century modern and brass…EVERYTHING!
No in all seriousness although I’m drawn to trends just like everyone else, we all have to find our own balance between the style of our home, our current style, and keeping things relatively classic so the trends don’t date the room’s design.
Currently, that balance still has a lot of mid-century modern but I try to keep my colors muted in or to not overwhelm our open concept Bungalow.

Sam Hay From Raggedy Bits
All things Vintage and Farmhouse. I have always loved all things old but am really drawn to pieces with numbers, and signs made from wood like crates.

Liz Elliott From Franc And Eli
Dark grays and deep, dark hues. I think they are making a comeback after “all-white everything” was in for a while. It’s a big, bold step in the opposite direction and I’m totally loving it!

And last but not least, little old me …
Sam Franklin From A Happy Home In Holland
I can often be indecisive and change my mind frequently so my own home decor style is pretty eclectic.
I draw inspiration from so many different sources and tend to cherry-pick different elements from many different styles and trends.
At the moment I really love galvanised home accessories, spiky plants, baskets, chunky textiles, and natural-looking materials such as jute and driftwood.
With regard to an overall look or trend, I would say I am particularly drawn to four different interior styles; Scandinavian, Rustic, Coastal (like my Coastal Succulent Planter idea), and Farmhouse.
They are all different but lap over quite nicely. I really love looking at the gorgeous photos of all these styles that you can find on Pinterest at the moment.

I love this post! It’s interesting to see what others are doing. I style is cottage/coastal. I love navy and white and was actually disappointed to find it had become popular because I like to have something different.
I’m really glad you enjoyed reading it, Melanie! Yes, I love to see what others are doing too (I guess I’m kind of nosey 😉 ).
I like the coastal look too and I am actually in the process of doing up our loft bedroom in this style – I will share the photos when it is done (it could take a while though knowing me).
Such great answers. I wonder if we will cringe at our answers in 10 years. 😉
Ha ha maybe! 😉
How fun reading what they all had to say! I like you am very eclectic. I do love color and I don’t care for mid century. I love mixing the new with the old! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

Jann
