At the moment everything is orange here!
Today it is Koningsdag (Kings Day) and there are celebrations going on throughout the land.
My girls wanted to do some ‘cooking’.
Whilst no actual cooking was involved (apart from microwaving the white chocolate 😉 ) the girls really enjoyed making these ‘Koningsdag’ snacks.
Easy Koningsdag Treats To Make With The Kids
We kept it simple and made two different things – one sweet and one savoury.
I chose these ideas because the girls could make these themselves.
The Dutch flag strawberries were made just by melting white chocolate dipping them in and then dabbing the bottom in the blue sugar.
The little tulip flowers were made with cheese blocks, cucumber and carrot.I cut the cucumber in slices then let my eldest daughter Alexandra (who is 8 years old) slice them in half with a dinner knife and scoop the seeds out middle.
With the carrot she wanted to do this herself and a dinner knife was not going to ‘cut it’ (ha ha get it ‘cut it’ 🙂 ).
I let her use the vegetable peeler to peel them and then (very nervously) gave her a sharper knife to cut it into slices and cut 2 little triangles out the top to make the tulip shape.
I must admit I really should give her more credit and trust her more often she was very careful and did a great job!
Whoops there go the cocktail sticks!
Isabella sat next to her on the assembly line putting the cheese blocks, cucumber and carrot pieces onto cocktail sticks.
They were really proud of their efforts!
Now the fun bit!
We are all ready for the koningsdag celebrations!
